As 2012 winds down, Coach looks back on soccer season
While the wins may not have piled up like we had hoped, the great memories Coach Darrell has of the 2012 soccer season have piled up.
In the beginning, Coach Darrell said it was not about the wins & losses....and I may have left a few of you scratching your head as you watched me yell....beg....plead for the girls to react to his calls over the course of any given soccer game. That's just my competitive side....what I wanted out of our team was different than what I wanted from each player. First and foremost, I wanted your daughter to enjoy playing soccer and hope I haven't deterred anyone from playing again next season. My goal was for the girls to have fun and want to continue playing soccer. This year we had several 1st year players and it was an absolute pleasure to watch them discover the game. I also took great satisfaction in watching our seasoned player improve their skills and become a better soccer player. I know at times I had to raise my voice to get the kids to settle down or listen when I rambled on about the importance of a particular drill....but I tried to keep this into perspective and realized the reason I raised my voice was that our daughters were bonding and becoming friends. Friendship is a nice side-effect to the soccer season....isn't it??
After much deliberation, I've decided this will be my last year of coaching soccer. While I really do enjoy coaching the teams, at this level my teaching abilities have been exceeded by the required skills and a coach with an advanced skill set will be better served. While the season is not quite over, I felt I may not have the opportunity to share my thoughts to everyone....Thank you for letting me coach your daughter.
-Coach Darrell
